On This Day – October 3rd 2021 (German Reunification)

Michael Thomas, Editor

On this day, October the 3rd, in the year of 1990 (United States Institute of Peace), East Germany reunited with West Germany to just become Germany.

As the Soviet Union began to falter, so did its “Iron Curtain” (communist nations acting as a buffer between non-communist nations and itself), with a result of this being these Iron Curtain nations starting to drop the system. One of these nations was East Germany, who would go on to rejoin its other half.

Today in Germany, October 3rd is celebrated as German Unity Day (Studying in Germany).
