On This Day – October 27th (New York City Subway)

On this day, October the 27th, in the year of 1904, the first section of the New York City Subway, America’s busiest public transit system (WorldAtlas), opened.

The line, which started at City Hall (Lower Manhattan), went up to Grand Central Station (Midtown Manhattan), ended on Broadway in Harlem (Upper Manhattan), and had 28 stations inbetwixt, had 100,000 riders on its first day of operation (History).

As the years went on, the system expanded to have 472 stations and 665 miles of track, servicing millions of people each (normal) year (MTA).
