On Tuesday, December 12th the Black Student Union held a Family Feud and Food event in the cafeteria after school, and it was nothing short of a success. Mrs Cruz, the speech therapist and BSU club advisor at WHS, explained that the goal in having these events is, “To provide students from all backgrounds and walks of life with a safe space to engage in fellowship and also to learn about all aspects of culture within the Black community.” Around 80-100 students decided to stop in and enjoy some food, say hi to their friends, or dance to a song or two.
I spoke to Joy who said her favorite part was, “The dancing, and everyone being included.”
I also spoke to Aamirah and she said “It was very comfortable and there were only positive vibes.”
Events like these aren’t only for those in BSU, but for anyone in our school interested in trying something new.
Mrs Cruz also explained that events like these, “provide students who may not identify as being a part of the Black community with ways of learning about the different things within our culture.”
The WHS BSU’s Family Feud and Food event was nothing but a great event that brought our students together to celebrate.
