Each year, during the first week of November, the American Association of French Teachers sponsors a national, week-long series of activities to promote the French language and culture. This year, French teacher Madame Zeitz and the French Honor Society celebrated French Week through activities designed to engage WHS students in all things French.
“Planning for French Week was fun and exhausting, but it paid off,” Madame Zeitz said.
Two of the most popular activities that happened during the week were Crêpe Day, when 30 to 35 students made their own crêpes after school in one of the cooking rooms, and the French concert, which saw students take the trip to Shore Regional High School in Long Branch to experience Makandal, a music group from Haiti. “We had a great time at the concert this year and making crêpes is always very exciting for the students here,” Madame Zeitz said.
In addition to the activities already happening during French Week, Madame Zeitz said, “There is always room such as going to an art museum.”
The success of French Week can be credited to the hard work of the FHS and French teachers Madame Zeitz and Madame for improvement. We’re looking to add a French Art Day. I would love to do more with the arts, Williams. “We organize events and help with promoting to ultimately increase students’ interest in the French culture,” FHS Vice President Anthony LoGrande said. “Being a member of FHS is really cool, especially since we get to plan French Week.”
Madame Zeitz and the FHS hope to have even more successful French Weeks in the future and are working towards expanding French culture in WHS.
