Woodbridge High School’s annual Multicultural Week was hosted by the WHS International Culture Club, the Social Justice Club, and advisors Ms. Rich, Ms. Zadigan, and Madame Zeitz. The festivities ran from December 5th-9th.
“I think it’s a fantastic week,” said Madame Zeitz. “It’s so diverse and a great social setting for students from different backgrounds.”
The activities during Multicultural Week included saying “Hello” in different languages, asking other students where they were from, and a multicultural social after school on December 7th. “It’s a great way to get involved and understand other students’ cultures,” said Ms. Zadigian.
“This week definitely brings the school together, especially being so diverse. It’s where friends discover other heritages, ethnicities, and cultures,” said Pierrelee Claude, President of the International Culture Club. All activities were open to any student interested in participating.
Administrators also got involved with the activities. “I’m very proud that everyone is showing off and enjoying each other’s cultures,” said Principal Mr. Lottmann.
“I think it’s good for the overall culture of the school to see everyone’s cultures come together,” said Vice Principal Mr. Chiera.
Students who participated got a taste of different foods from around the world, played games, and competed in contests. The turnout for Multicultural Week was so significant that advisers are now considering doing another week in the spring.
“I just love how I can learn so much and experience so many different cultures in one place,” said Olivia Williams, junior.
The support of the diversity in the school has been growing each year with student involvement becoming more substantial.
“I think that our school’s ethnic and cultural diversity is our strongest asset,” said Vice Principal Mr. Connelly. “To see it celebrated in such a way like this gives me faith in the future.”
