Dress Reinforcement
Dating back to last year, an enforcement of dress code has been pushed for the students. With a new school year beginning, the students of WHS must abide by these rules as they attend their classes.
The Woodbridge High School dress code has been a set rule for a while now, with an extra emphasis on enforcement dating back to the start of the second semester last year. Students were told what was appropriate in grade-level meetings, and what consequences would follow if students don’t abide by the rule.
With the emphasis on proper dress, the students had mixed reactions. This is because they were so used to wearing what they were wearing before, that may or may not have fit in the dress code.
The dress code rules are essentially just to be covered from shoulder to mid-thigh. Also, there is nothing allowed on your head outside of religious wear. Students have expressed the difficulty since the code was enforced more.
Student Struggle
Female student Marianna Marte Suriel said, “Since the dress code has been more enforced it’s been harder for me to get ready in the morning. I look at the clothes wondering if they will be okay to wear.”
It seems as though students are still trying to get used to the idea of wearing clothes a certain way. Though female students aren’t the only people struggling with the dress code proposition. Male students are struggling as well.
Hats have become a talking point, with many male students struggling to remember that hats don’t belong in the building.
“I think wearing the hat is just a habit, so when I get told to take it off it kind of takes me aback,” said one male student.
Now that we are in the second month of the school year students seem to be getting used to wearing certain things that fit the dress code. Students are encouraged to ask questions if they have any, and the dress code policy remains in place for the remainder of our year.

I’m a retired teacher from the Elizabeth School district where students wear uniforms and under no circumstances are hats or hoods permitted. Additionally, shoes must be worn no flip flops or open toe shoes due to safety regulations. Students in Woodbridge need to adhere to the dress code or face consequences.
