Dodgers Claim Eighth World Series Title
In an exciting end to the 2024 MLB season, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees to win their eighth World Series title. This championship marked the Dodgers first title since their last World Series victory in the shortened COVID MLB season in 2020.
Freeman Shines as Dodgers Take Commanding Lead
The Los Angeles Dodgers, who secured their 25th National League Pennant dominated the series against the Yankees with their pitching and bats. The Dodgers jumped to a quick 3-0 lead in the series with the help of World Series MVP Freddie Freeman who homered in four straight games against the Yankees.
Yankees Fight Off World Series Sweep in Game Four Victory
The New York Yankees looked to be the 22nd MLB team to be swept in the World Series heading into Game four. With all of their offensive and defensive struggles, the Yankees suited up hoping for a turnaround. The Yankees overcame all those struggles in Game four and dominated the Dodgers winning 11-4 with a grand slam from Anthony Volpe opening the game up in the third inning.
Yankees Fall Short in Hot Game Five Start
Unfortunately for the Yankees, Game four wasn’t enough to start a spark in a rally to come back in the series. In Game five, the Yankees jumped to a quick 5-0 lead with Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm Jr. hitting back-to-back home runs in the first inning. The Yankees lead continued with an RBI single from Alex Verdugo and a Giancarlo Stanton home run.
Dodgers Do the Impossible
In the fifth inning, with two outs, the Dodgers did the inevitable and scored five unanswered runs. The Yankees’ defense caused two errors and an infield single to keep the Dodgers in the inning. The game was tied up with a Teoscar Hernandez two RBI double against Gerrit Cole.
Yankees Lose Lead
The Yankees scored a run in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly from Giancarlo Stanton to put the Yankees ahead again. While the Dodgers’ offense was stagnant, Gavin Lux would tie the game up with a sacrifice fly and another fly from Mookie Betts to put them ahead in the eighth inning.
Dodgers Bullpen Dominates World Series
The Dodgers didn’t look back after the eighth inning. With the help of their dominant bullpen and the Yankees’ offensive struggles, they were able to win the 2024 World Series.
