As the hustle and bustle of the Halloween season begins, with parents buying candy, houses being decorated, haunted houses, and Spirit Halloween visits. We asked students and teachers at WHS what their favorite movies are, a statistic of the most common costumes this year, and if people are still even wearing them.
Halloween Costumes
“I am not wearing a Halloween costume this year,” Says Mr.Modesto, an energetic history teacher at WHS loved by many. I love seeing kids’ faces when I’m handing out candy. It’s the greatest thing. Little kids coming to the house with big smiles. I also enjoy the Trunk or Treat at the school”.
A statistic made was based on 7 students. It showed proof that most are wearing costumes this year, mostly last minute ideas. Spending Halloween just trick or treating with friends and family no matter the age. Eating the candy they received at home with family or friends. But, partying the weekend before Halloween or as they call it “Halloweekend”. The anticipated weekend is known by many. The time of year where you go to parties hosted by students at WHS or around the town to have the night of their lives dressed up in cute costumes.
“I personally am wearing a Pirate costume this year” Said Katelynn a Junior at WHS . I love celebrating Halloween and parties are something I look forward to the most now that I’m older.¨
Seems as the overall body at the school does celebrate Halloween and contribute to the festivities.
Movies
“You’ve probably wondered where holidays come from, if you haven’t, I’d say it’s time you’ve begun.” – The Narrator, The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
The most famous movie intro in all Halloween movie history. You likely knew the movie before the sentence even finished if you’re a Halloween Movie Fanatic.
“There’s so many good movies it’s hard for me to choose, If I had to I would pick Corpse Bride,” says Sophia a Sophomore at WHS, “I watch it without fail every year”
“I don’t really watch movies I watch more shows as you know the popular Gilmore Girls is a popular choice for fall shows” Nathan a junior at WHS. With testing and school work so many things go on in October, I don’t really have time to celebrate how I would like to but only for fall due to religion I can’t participate in Halloween, but when I can the movie Twitches would be my go-to”.
Other students when asked mentioned The Classic Nightmare Before Christmas, The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, Coraline, and Halloweentown.
It seems as though Halloween this year still has the spooky spirit. Many people are still participating in the classic traditions. Religion prohibits some but not all. Putting effort even with busy lives, some find time.
Concluding that, the student body still loves Halloween, and Administration although will be passing out the candy instead, they still watch spooky movies and watch their families enjoy the popular day. In the United States, approximately 61% of people will be celebrating in 2024. Will you be one of the 61%?
