The first marking period of the 2024-2025 school year at Woodbridge High School is officially in the books. Since September, there have been many things going on around the school since then. So there’s a lot to go over.
School Events
Many clubs have returned since last year, coming back with a rocking start. The long awaited cafeteria renovations since mid second semester of the 2023-2024 school year have finally come to an end. Senior sunrise and homecoming night was a success, with homecoming king and queen electees being Bryan Anderson and Tatiana Camilo.
Sports
Reviewing the sports fall season of Woodbridge High School, Barrons football ended their regular season with an amazing 9-0 record, going undefeated until unfortunately losing their spectacular streak in the playoffs semifinals. Barrons boys soccer ended their regular season with a 4-12-1 record. While not the record they envisioned, their seniors got a proper farewell during senior night with a beautiful 2-1 win against Sayreville. Barrons girls soccer wrapped up their regular season with a 6-12-2 record. Like their counterparts, they made a statement with their senior night, writing off an unbelievable 8-0 win against South Plainfield. The Barrons tennis team ended their season with an honorable 16-5 record with two amazing feats. Kenza Kharbouch reached the finals at the GMC tournament, and Coach Matusz took home the GMC Coach of The Year Award, highlighting a very successful season. Barrons girls volleyball spiked their regular season down with an astonishing 20-9 record, reaching all the way to the semi-finals of the state tournament. As for Barrons boys and girls cross country, despite not having the record they wanted, most athletes beat their personal records, which was something they could be very proud of and build into next year.
The Staff Perspective
Checking up on the staff of WHS. We asked Graphic Animation and Video Game Design teacher Mr. Stadtmiller a few questions covering the end of the first marking period.
BP (Barron Perspective): “How are you feeling now that we’re done with the first marking period?”
Mr. Stadtmiller: “I feel that time needs to slow down a bit. I think the year is going by too fast. This is the only time in the history of the world that this group of people will ever be together and I try to appreciate that and enjoy it while it lasts. So as we hurl through space on a spinning ball of dirt and water, I try to appreciate the now and not take things for granted.”
BP: “What was your proudest accomplishment throughout the first marking period?”
Mr. Stadtmiller: “I love the classes that I teach, Graphic Animation and Video Game Design. And even after as long as I have been teaching I still get excited and really appreciative when a student locks in on an assignment. Getting really excited [about an assignment] as well as doing great work, [moments like those], really makes me feel proud.”
BP: “Anything to look forward to for the rest of the year to come?”
Mr. Stadtmiller: “I really look forward to each day here at WHS. Once we get into the year a little bit and I get to know my students, they really make [each of] my day[s]. There are so many amazing students here and I consider myself lucky to know them. Oh and apple pie! I’m looking forward to apple pie. Thanksgiving is next week! Oh, and there is a band that I really like named Clutch. I’m going to see them in December. So to sum up I’m looking forward to Clutch, apple pie, and spending time with my Barrons family.”
The Student Perspective
To cover for the students, we asked senior Anas Rizwan the same questions as well.
BP (Barron Perspective): “How are you feeling now that we’re done with the first marking period.”
Anas Rizwan: “I’m happy it’s over, I can’t wait to see what lies ahead in the future.”
BP: “What was your proudest accomplishment throughout the first marking period?”
Anas Rizwan: “[I would say] my biggest accomplishment was finding a good friend group to have, [to be a part of].”
The Year Continues…
As you can see, Woodbridge High School is a force to be reckoned with. Full of hard work, unity, and positivity, everyday is a great day over at WHS. But it’s only the second marking period now, so the best has yet to come.
