Recently New Jersey has been the victim of a random outbreak of wildfires. People around the state and within Woodbridge High school, students and teachers are concerned with the matter.
The first New Jersey wildfire that struck concern occurred on November 7th, 2024. This caught the attention of many people around the world.
The reason why some people were surprised is because, this being New Jersey, we aren’t really used to the heat and dryness that creates wildfires which people in the east see in more states around the west.
Woodbridge High School teacher Joseph Gregory states, “My sister’s husband works on construction down in South Jersey. He was very close to the fire.” He then went on to state maybe this could be happening because of the oddly warm and dry fall we’ve been having.
Student Laila Stanford states, “Maybe this has something to do with global warming this year.” Global warming warnings have been extra pushed the last couple of months. So many people including this student are thinking this has something to do with global warming.
There are many ways we could be more educated on global warming and how to work on fixing that part of the world. But what we can do now is make sure we know how to handle the situation when a fire breaks out.
When a fire breaks out you should, according to the USDA website, put out any fires, sparks or embers. Avoid opening any interior doors that feel hot, and stay away from fragile trees and downed power lines. Wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts and gloves made of cotton or wool. Many people who perish in wildfires do so in vehicles.
Hopefully the fires get better and everyone and their relatives stay safe.
