The College Football Championship has come and gone with the Ohio State Buckeyes becoming the National Champions for the 2024-2025 season.
Ohio State has been one of the hottest teams after dominating victories over Tennessee, Oregon, and Texas. Will Howard, who commanded the Buckeyes’ offense, has proven to be the answer at quarterback after former Buckeye Kyle McCord transferred to Syracuse. A key player from last night’s game included Quinshon Judkins who rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on just 11 carries. The Buckeyes true freshman Jeremiah Smith also helped lead them to victory with his 5 receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown.
Unfortunately, Notre Dame entered with a 14-1 and a 13-game winning streak but failed to get the job done. Their offense struggled after its opening drive touchdown until the second half. The Irish would find their rhythm in the third and fourth quarters but key mistakes would ultimately cost them the game.
The Fighting Irish were amid a comeback with a Riley Leonard touchdown pass to Jaden Greathouse and a converted two-point attempt. However, the Buckeyes secured the win with a crucial 57-yard pass from Howard to Smith on third down, leading to a 33-yard field goal. The game ended with a final score of 34-23.
This victory marked Ohio State’s first national title since 2014, their ninth in team history. Quarterback Will Howard earned the title of Offensive Most Valuable Player.
