At the start of the 2025-2026 school year at Woodbridge High School, the Sophomore Class hosted elections. Advisor, Mr. Nowicki, put out applications for Sophomore Class Officers. The process was tedious to ensure that sophomores would have a strong, academic, and social team of reliable officers.
The Process:
Students interested in becoming Sophomore Class officers were first required to complete a Google Form. There, they expressed their interest and the position they wanted to run for, according to Sophomore Class Advisor, Mr. Nowicki. Once applications were submitted, Mr. Nowicki considered each student carefully. A list of candidates was posted on a Google Form for the Sophomore class to vote on by October 7, 2025.
The Barron Perspective asked Mr. Nowicki what he considers important when electing a class officer.
“Academics are important. The advisors will be the elected representatives of the class, and leadership is certainly important,” Mr Nowicki stated. “I think our candidates represent a fine balance of these skills and characteristics.”
The officer roles at WHS are the following: President, who guides, oversees, and represents the Sophomore Class. The vice president, who supports the class president, takes over when the president is gone and coordinates class activities. The secretary, who documents class activities, keeps organized records, and distributes information. The treasurer, who manages the class’s funds, organizes fundraisers, and develops the class budget. The social media manager who creates content, advertises, and campaigns for the class across various social media platforms.
About The Presidents:
Winners: President Jillian Peralta, Vice President Lux Baumgartner-Prew, Secretary Sophia Stadtmiller, Treasurer Avery Carlson, and Social Media Manager Fatima Bhutto.
When it comes to elections and publicity, campaigning is essential for ultimate success. The Barron Perspective asked the president and vice president for information on their campaign strategies.
“Unfortunately, I didn’t get to campaign because I was the only one who ran, but I helped a lot of the candidates with their own campaigns and the planning of them,” Sophomore Class President, Jillian Peralta, stated. “There were people who baked brownies and made posters, and social media campaigns – I think it’s very cool how they put in so much effort!”
“For my campaign, I constantly posted and brought some brownies to school because I feel like food is just the way, and it worked!” Sophomore Class Vice President, Lux Baumgartner-Prew, stated.
Who Will Be Leading The Year:
Regarding class officers, sophomores must have insight into who exactly will be leading their year. The Barron Perspective asked election winners to share a little bit of information about themselves in and outside of academics. Unfortunately, we couldn’t manage an interview with Sophomore Class Treasurer, Avery Carlson.
President Jillian Peralta: “I ran for my position because I really wanted a leadership role where I could make an impact on our school, and help make sophomore year the best year possible by planning fun activities, organizing, and planning things. Outside of academics, I love playing volleyball, hanging out with friends, and watching movies or TV shows.”
Vice President Lux Baumgartner-Prew: “I ran for my position because I feel like the Vice President is just as important as the President, and I feel like it’s a role where you get to make more decisions and have more of a say. Outside of academics, I run as my sport, I hang out with friends, and I like baking.”
Secretary Sophia Stadtmiller: “I ran for my position because I was the Freshman Class Secretary last year, and it was very fun, so I really wanted to do it again! Outside of academics, I really love to play volleyball, read, and play Roblox.”
Media Manager Fatima Bhutto: “I ran for my position because I’ve played roles like this before for my youth group, I love creating stuff online, and I think that social media is the key to bringing the hype for any school event. Outside of academics, I would say I love to volunteer, go biking, and hang out with my friends.”
With such incredible students running the Sophomore Class, the year is bound for success! The 2025-2026 Sophomore Class Officer Elections demonstrate that putting in the work, campaigning, and being a good student really pays off. Here’s to a wonderful year for the sophomores at WHS!
