The air crackled with anticipation last Friday as the stands filled for the homecoming football game. Beyond the roar of the student section and the vibrant display of the school colors, red and black, a different kind of energy pulsed behind the scenes.
The homecoming court prepared for their moment in the spotlight. For the nominees, the day was filled with pictures and nervousness. Each representative carried the weight of representing their class,
The Barron Perspective spoke with some of the candidates, and this is what they said:
“How did you campaign for people to vote for homecoming?”
Michael Gurovich: “Well, Crystal and I were actually working together, so we put up posters around the school, made and designed ourselves for Homecoming King and Queen, and then social media is a big part of it too; posting on Instagram, getting people to see it, and letting them know to vote for us.”
“What are you looking forward to now that Homecoming is today?”
Gurovich: “I’m just really excited to be a part of it, see what the outcome is, and see who wins.”
“What do you think the outcome is going to be?”
Caroline Trilleras: “I honestly have no idea. I think anyone really has a chance of winning, so we’ll just see.”
“What does homecoming mean to you, beyond just a title?”
Trilleras: “I think it is really an honor to be a part of the court, just knowing that your peers picked you for a reason, and I feel like your kindness really just shows why you’re on this court and everything you do for people.”
“How do you think Homecoming has built a sense of community at our school?”
Crystal Boakye: “I really made people more involved in the class, I think more people were campaigning and talking to each other and trying to vote, and we usually don’t get that much involvement, so it was really cool to see that.”
While the football team played on the field, the homecoming court and student section worked behind the scenes to create a memorable and spirited atmosphere for everyone there. The game, win or lose, became a celebration of unity, tradition, and the enduring bonds of the school community.
