WOODBRIDGE, N.J.– Woodbridge High School opened the curtains on Sept. 30, 2025, as WHS students showcased their talents at the annual WHS Talent Show. Hosted by Mrs. Romero, music teacher and choir director at WHS, the event has served as a fundraiser for the choir department. The show offers a stage for students to showcase their creativity and passions with the school community.
“I love the WHS Talent Show because it allows our students to showcase what is important to them, and lets our community appreciate all the different skills and passions of our diverse student population,” said Romero.
The night featured 12 different acts, which included soulful singing of songs like “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys, performed by senior Sarah Hernandez.
“My inspiration behind my performance was that I wanted to tell a story,” said Hernandez. “That song by Alicia Keys that I picked is just my go-to song, so I knew it was something that I was comfortable singing, and I really just wanted to show my talent, really.”
She certainly did wow the crowd with her electrifying performance. Aliyah Maynard was a double threat, singing as she played the piano. Samiyah Muhammad showcased her rendition of a TED Talk about Anxiety titled “Turning Fear Into Fuel”. Samiyah was a recurring performer, winning first place with her best friend, Danica Kuria, the year prior.
The WHS Talent Show is a long-standing tradition. The Barron Perspective also asked Mrs. Romero about the history of the talent show.
“The first Talent Show was in April 2024. This year was our third show,” stated Mrs. Romero. “… I do remember the winners of each show very vividly — the first winner, Riley Volpe, you and Danica, and Dorcas this year.”
This year’s winner, Dorcas Amusa, captivated the audience with her soulful performance of “Love on the Brain” by Rihanna. As guests voted, the tickets were counted, and the winner had been selected. Dorcas took home the title: WHS Talent Show Winner. She went home with a $100 gift card. Everyone cheered with joy and excitement, and we want to congratulate Dorcas Amusa on a great achievement!
