Netflix’s latest original series, Wayward, premiered on Sept. 25, 2025. The series immediately sparked conversation in entertainment. The show was created by an up-and-coming director, Lena Vasquex.
The show follows a new small-town cop, Alex Dempsey, who suspects that the local school for troubled teens and its dangerously charismatic founder may not be all it seems. As secrets unravel and the truth unfolds, viewers are drawn into a psychological maze.
The eight-episode season is a mixture of suspense, emotional trauma, and drama. Starring Mae Martin, Sarah Gadon, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Toni Collette, and Tricia Black.
I recently watched the show. Initially, I felt it was confusing, but in a good way. It wasn’t an easy story, which I believe is why the show is not “easy”. Meaning it is unpredictable and exciting, eyes gazed at the TV, eager to discover what’s next to come.
Based on most Rotten Tomatoes reviews, viewers were disappointed by the “anticlimactic ending”. I can relate to this. I do feel the ending did not leave viewers with enough suspense to give them a reason to want to come back for more. Lacking the cliff-hanger effect.
Although looking forward, I do believe there could possibly be another season. This would give solid reasoning behind the anticlimactic ending of the season. I would recommend this mini-series to anyone. It’s a great binge-worthy show. Definitely worth watching.
