8Woodbridge High School’s annual Trunk or Treat is around the corner! Therefore, all advisors and coaches around the building are preparing for what is bound to be a successful evening. WHS’s Trunk or Treat has traditionally taken place on the day before Halloween, or the last school day before the holiday. Save the date, as this year’s event will take place on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025!
Ms. Dercole’s Perspective:
The Barron Perspective asked the head of the event, Ms. Dercole, to share a little bit about the expectations of the event. She gave insight into the planning and the purpose of the event.
“The purpose/goal of Trunk or Treat is to give back to the community and make a safe environment for the younger generation to be able to trunk or treat safely and see all that WHS has to offer,” Ms. Dercole, Varsity Cheer Coach and Psychology teacher at WHS, shared.
Apart from the candy and the fun games that the youth of Woodbridge Township will take part in, they will also be introduced to plenty of clubs, organizations, and sports at WHS. Essentially, this will provide a safe and fun environment for the children while also positively advertising the building.
In past years, the event has been described as a night filled with music, candy, and funky costumes. Plenty of tables designated to different clubs and sports are set up around WHS’s oval. There is no doubt that the Barrons at WHS will not be expecting anything less.
“The setup process, we have the road in front of the school blocked off. Signs are set up so each club or organization knows where to set up,” Ms. Dercole stated. “Everyone sets up like half an hour before to get ready for the little ones.”
Ms. Dercole also shared what she is looking forward to and what others will probably be looking forward to as well.
“I always look forward to seeing the little ones in their costumes,” Ms. Dercole shared. “They are always so happy to be there and show everyone what they are wearing. It is such a fun event for the community.”
New Trunk or Treat Participants:
Many clubs have participated for years on this WHS event. This year, two new organizations are participating for the first time. The Barron Perspective gained insight into both the WHS Bowling Team and the WHS dance classes. Both shared their hopes for their first time at the event.
Mr. Maddock and the bowling team plan to give out candy at their table and set up cornhole boards and bags to entertain the children.
Ms. Holmstrom and the dance classes will give out candy. Dance-themed coloring sheets will be given out to the children with bingo dabbers to paint. In addition, hand wipes will also be provided because those little fingers will be getting messy!
New Expectations:
The Barron Perspective was curious as to why the bowling team and the WHS dance classes were influenced to participate this year.
Barron Perspective: “Why have you decided to participate in Trunk or Treat this year?”
Mr. Maddock: “ Woodbridge had such a great tradition of events, and I know the Trunk or Treat is one of them. I just wanted both my team and myself to be more involved in the school community. Plus, seeing all of our students interact with the younger kids and how good they are with them makes it worth being involved.”
Ms. Holmstrom: “It is a good way to make our program known to the school and community at large, and shows positive involvement in service activities like this. We will also be making posters about this year’s upcoming dance performances, so more than just our families attend. Finally, this is a good event for dance students to take charge and lead the way, showing their responsibility and skills.”
It is safe to say that the event will prove successful as always! Everyone involved will gain some wonderful memories. This year’s Trunk or Treat is bound to be a whole lot of fun. Put on your Halloween costume and help your team/club/sport run this year’s event! If not, come and eat some candy!
