WHS Prepares for Annual PowderPuff Game

The annual PowderPuff game, a flag football game between Woodbridge High School and Colonia High School female students, is to be held at WHS this year. This event is a fundraiser for the senior class and brings together students to support their schools.

Last year’s game ended in a tie, though Woodbridge principal Mr. Lottmann and Colonia principal Mr. Pace gave Colonia the win because they raised more money than Woodbridge. This year, WHS hopes to secure the win on their own turf.

Mr. Switek, the WHS senior class adviser, expects the athletes to play clean and stay focused. “[Athletes should] play smart, not flashy, and keep the ball on the ground,” he said.

Cassidy Ronk, a senior class officer and a defensive player in last year’s game, was concerned about the pressure of playing at home. “We ran very complicated plays and it was very confusing… I think this year we need to stick to the basics and we should be fine,” she said.

Despite last year’s rules, fall sport athletes are not permitted to participate in this year’s PowderPuff game, which includes cheerleaders, volleyball, tennis, and cross country athletes.

Mr. Switek explained that this was rule was implemented to protect athletes’ performance in their sports and career, through preventing injury during the game.

Miranda Carroll, a junior athlete participating in the PowderPuff game this year said, “The teams are evenly matched… If we all work together, I predict a win. Teamwork, communication, and fundraising are the major goals of the event.”

This year’s PowderPuff game will be held at Woodbridge High School’s Nicholas A. Priscoe Stadium on November 1st at 6:30 P.M. Tickets cost $4 in advance and $5 at the event.
