Two recognized Negro League championship teams participate in the first “Colored World Series” of baseball in 1924. Although there had been unofficial games in previous years, this was the first meeting between league champions that was organized in the same way as the white World Series. Baseball was integrated in 1947, when Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier and became the first black player in the Major Leagues.
