Recently, the Barron Perspective sat down with Ms. Cuzzola to discuss the Social Justice club.
Barron Perspective: What is the Social Justice Club?
Ms. Cuzzola: I created it two years ago when I came here. Its purpose is to build unity and respect in school, the community, and globally.
BP: What do students do in this club?
MC: Students engage in conversations that promote respect and nonviolence. Currently, we are working on Water for Detroit. Detroit went bankrupt and the water companies are privatized, so if you can’t pay your bills, you don’t get water. More than anything, we are trying to educate and build awareness.
BP: What is your favorite part of this club?
MC: I like that the club represents the goal. We have over 30 kids that represent everything: every grade, race, ethnicity, religion, from special education to top students.
BP: What would you say to students on the fence about joining?
MC: Just come check us out. There are a lot of students that don’t do much but they are in Social Justice. We engage the disengaged.
BP: Is there anything else you would like to add?
MC: We are planning a peace rally in the spring and we would like to see 100% attendance.
The Social Justice club meets every Friday after school in room 110.
