Students are set to take a trip to Quebec and Montreal on November 5th through the 8th organized by Madame Williams and Madame Zeitz. The trip was held every two years for the past six years, and they alternate between themselves on who is in charge of the trip since it is a “huge responsibility”. They work with a tour company that arranges the excursions, meals, transportation and accommodations.

This year, 21 students are attending. “We are just trying to promote the french language… they are immersed in the culture and this way it’s a way for them to travel and have exposure to the french language.” said Madame Zeitz.

The student itinerary is jammed packed with numerous activities. All of the activities are diverse. It spans from history ,arts , sport, and culture. The activities include riding a ferry across the St. Lawrence, going on a ghost walk, and going to the Sugar Shack

The Sugar Shack are past students favorite according to Madame Williams. “Students always have a great time” said Madame Williams. They have a dinner there and dance to traditional folk music of Quebec.

Their trip starts in Quebec City. From there, they will have a historical tour with their tour guide who “encourage the children to speak french.” said by Madame Zeitz. In restaurants they test their skills by ordering food and when they go into shops.

The students get to try French-Canadian foods like poutine, savory crêpes, croissants, and duck. Next they will go to Montreal for a day to visit the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Olympic park, where the Olympics were held back in 1976.

The students get to tour the Olympic stadium. “They get to see world class sporting venues, something our students on the swim team and track team love.” said Madame Williams. At one of their activities, they learn how to do bas-relief art a form of sculpture. “Students get a new medium to show off their artistic skills” said Madame Williams.

“It’s going to be a very very busy trip, the children will be exhausted but it’s fun,” said Madame Zeitz when discussing the trip. Students helped participate in fundraisers of which the proceeds go to the students fee.

They have had three fundraisers. They sold bags and accessories, chocolate, and coffee. The Gertrude Hawk and Boon supply were successful. Currently, they are having a fundraiser selling Krispy Kreme donuts.

The trip is nearing. Here are some of the students’ thoughts on the trip. Isha Nayee a senior enrolled in French 4 “It’s nice to get out and get to experience in a different language” said Nayee.

Yasmin Rosas a sophomore taking French 2. “I’m excited for this trip because learning the culture and getting to speak French to someone who knows French is something to look forward to” said Rosas.

Madame Zeitz wants the students “to realize that there’s this amazing world outside of Woodbridge, and perhaps instill within them the love of travel, the love of culture and language.” They plan to have their next trip in 2021, students can start saving up. This trip does not only apply to French students, but everyone else.
