On this day, October the 23rd, in the year of 2000, the Monday Night Miracle, a comeback during a football game which saw the New York Jets mount a fourth quarter/overtime comeback against the Miami Dolphins, occurred.

Going into the fourth quarter, New York was trailing 30-7 to Miami in their home Giants Stadium, causing many in attendance to head home and viewers at home to go to sleep.

As the momentum swung in the direction of the Jets, those still in attendance and watching at home began to rally behind the club.

The most memorable play of the comeback came when New York quarterback Vinny Testaverde passed the ball to offensive lineman “Jumbo” Elliott, who bobbled but caught the pass for a New York Jets touchdown.

The game came to a close when kicker John Hall kicked a 40-yard field goal, the final score being 40-37 (ESPN).
