On This Day – October 24th (United Nations)

On this day, October the 24th, in the year of 1945, the United Nations, an international organization with the goal to be the talking table of all the world’s nations to maintain peace and avert war (among other humanitarian efforts), was formed.

After the First World War, an organization with the same goal (League of Nations) was formed to try to prevent another “Great War”, but due to nations not taking it seriously, it failed to do so, bringing on a war larger in scale then the First World War (World War 2).

After the Second World War, nations took the peacekeeping organization more seriously to avoid a third world war.

From that point to today, there hasn’t been a third world war and many other conflicts have been avoided due to the organization, though, many conflicts have still taken place nonetheless (Britannica).
