On this day, November the 4th, in the year of 2008, Barack Obama (Democrat) was elected as the 44th President of the United States of America over John McCain (Republican).

A historic result of the election was the first African American being elected to the office of the U.S. Presidency.

The election between then Illinois Senator Barack Obama and then Arizona Senator John McCain.

While the internet and 24/7 news media was around for previous elections, this one was the first election to be heavily influenced by this new era (Britannica) .

Obama won against McCain with 365 electoral votes compared to McCain’s 173, and had nearly 10,000,000 more popular votes than McCain (270toWin).

Obama’s Vice President, Joe Biden, would go on to run in and win the 2020 Presidential Election.
