On This Day – November 27th (First Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade)

Michael Thomas, Editor

On this day, November the 27th, in the year of 1924, the first Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, an annual parade held by Macy’s which holds multiple musical performances and parade floats, was held.

Originally intended to be a Christmas parade to promote Macys store for the upcoming holiday season, Macys held the event to draw in customers to their store.

Over the years, the parade grew in spectators and popularity and became Thanksgiving centric, with a nod to the upcoming holiday (Christmas) still present, with an appearance by Santa and his sleigh (History) (Macy’s Thanksgiving Fandom).
