Two weeks ago, the cockroaches that roam the halls of Woodbridge High School challenged the students to a basketball game through a now infamous letter. Yesterday, the game took place, and, according to one eyewitness, “It was like nothing I have ever seen in my life, for better or worse.”
That eyewitness was none other than varsity boys’ basketball head coach Mr. Gigliello. “It was weird. Who knew something that small could play so aggressively?” he elaborated, speaking about the seven injured players hurt by the roaches’ raw, physical power. The injuries ranged from broken ankles to shattered ribs, and one black eye.
The roaches, however, felt it was a coming-out party of sorts. “You know, I think we really played a solid, all-around game,” said Brett, the head coach of the roach team. “We showed that we are a force to be reckoned with on the court. I think it was an impressive display of athletics on both sides.”
The Woodbridge players, however, see it differently. “I still don’t really know what happened out there. It looked like the basketball was moving by itself and we kept getting elbowed somehow. On top of that, we really had to watch our step, which limited our abilities,” said the captain of the Woodbridge team.
Although Woodbridge lost this game, Coach Gigliello isn’t going down without a fight. “I definitely want a rematch after all our players heal. I think if we borrow some football equipment, we’ll be good to go.”
Until then, The Barron Perspective would like to wish a speedy recovery to all the players injured in the game.
