The Comic Book Club is one of Woodbridge High School’s newest clubs. It provides a safe space for students to discuss their love for comic books.

During meetings, the club comes together to discuss their love for comic books, comic book movies, and anything comic-related.

The advisor of the club is CCRA teacher Mr. Radu.  Now-president sophomore Isabella “Bella” Alvarez approached him with the idea.

“I decided to approach Mr. Radu since at the time I was in his CCRA class and both me and him have spoken multiple times about comic books… so I approached him with the idea he admired it a lot and helped me make the email which Dr. Lottmann had read to approve the club and since then we’ve been working together on it,” said Bella.

A Typical Comic Book Club Meeting

The typical comic book club meeting includes a debate or a trivia game made by the president.

On top of that, Radu said, “…students can read comics that are brought in by members of the club… occasionally we will watch new shows or movies that have dropped on streaming platforms and students also have the ability to create their own comic stories or characters.”

A sentiment echoed by both Alvarez and Radu is the element of a safe space at the club. To some people, comic books can be seen as nerdy. The two want to create a place at the school for fans of comics to be able to gather and share their love for the art form.

The club has become a hit among its members. Member Adam Hanafy said that the club is, “engaging enough for me to keep going; as well as the other people that attend.”

The Comic Book Club is a rising club at Woodbridge High School. Both Alvarez and Radu want to make it bigger and better. Bella in particular “wants to get a hand in fundraisers and go on field trips.”

In conclusion, you can join the Comic Book Club by joining their Classroom or getting a permission slip from Mr. Radu. They also have an Instagram.
