Woodbridge High School is known for its many clubs. From gardening to theater to video games, Woodbridge has it all. And now, Woodbridge has a club to celebrate Hispanic Culture.
The Hispanic Culture Club is a new club at Woodbridge High School that celebrates and showcases Hispanic culture. Advised by Snra. Mills and Snra. Rivera and run by president Camilla Arenas and their team of officers, the Hispanic Culture Club is looking to build upon their successful opening.
“One of the girls asked “hey, can we be in the Spanish Honors Society”,” said co-advisor Snra. Mills,” and I said it’s only for upperclassmen who made the grades. But if you do Hispanic Culture Club, that could include everybody.”
“The students led, they stepped up,” says Mills.
The Officers
“The students” whom Mills praises are five juniors. President Camilla Arenas, Vice President Brenda Gonzalez, Secretary Freddie Cruz, social media manager Angelise Benhimado, and graphic designer Cecilia Trangay.
When asked where the idea for the club came from, Arenas said “I saw that there were other clubs for other cultures, and I was like “Hispanic people are missing one”…let’s start one for them too.”
“I never do leader stuff ever,” added Arenas, “I don’t take leadership roles … this is the first time.”
The Future
The Hispanic Culture Club, like most clubs, intends to host events, movie nights, and other fun activities. Their first event is on October 13th. They will be hosting a potluck in the cafeteria to be able to experience each other’s cultural dishes and just have fun.
When asked about her participation in the club, senior Nickayla Anderson said “..since I’m half Hispanic, I thought maybe it’s a good idea to get in touch with my other half.”
“Join the cool kids club,” said social media manager Angelise Benhimado.
