Through motivation and hard work, the Varsity Girls’ Volleyball team wrapped up their 2016 campaign with 16 wins and eight losses, but the season holds a greater sense of finality for a number of seniors, and a wildly successful head coach.
With eight seniors graduating, the program is losing a large chunk of its core, and will look to rebuild and promote from within in order to stay competitive in the GMCs, and the division. Yet, there will be a new face at the helm when the Lady Barrons take the court next year: Coach Calhoun is retiring to focus on his young, growing family.
Rather than speculate on the future, this is a time to celebrate the achievements of this team, lead by senior captains Arza Kukuljac, Alyssa Abatemarco, Samantha Elbayar, and Sachi Rajadnya, who Calhoun selected because each is a “hard working, punctual, great student, great person, and leader.”
“My four captains are incredible, hard working young ladies who will be extremely successful in the future,” Coach Calhoun said. The Barron Perspective wishes the best of luck to all the graduating seniors on the volleyball team, and to Coach Calhoun and his family.
