Student-produced crochet club comes to Woodbridge High School and plans not only to teach students to crochet but to donate to an organization.
Crocheting is a type of needlecraft that involves a hooked needle and yarn creating fabric from the loops of yarn.
The Crochet Club directed by Anthony Hein a teacher at WHS is a student-produced club. The students in charge of the club are Sifa Ansari, Macy, and Ayushi Thaker. All sophomores at Woodbridge High School.
Crochet for a Cause is about teaching people how to crochet to then create donations for different organizations that revolve around those who need it. Safia states “I think it’s important because of course it can be seen as a social club because we’re meant to gather and make art, but we hope to genuinely have an effect on these organizations with donations.”
“Warm Up America” and Project Linus are the two organizations that the club has partnered with. They hope to provide enough solid squares to the organization “Warm Up America”. For them to be able to make a few blankets with our donations.
As of now, they have only had one general meeting. Where they began to teach people the steps in order to make the squares. Which is one of the most simple things to create.
Funding and Donations
They plan on holding a crochet sale to raise money for the club which can be used to buy more supplies. Or some of the funds will be used to donate directly.
Their overall goal is to create enough donations throughout the year. A top priority is being able to teach people how to crochet to be able to carry on those skills to others. One of their main goals is to genuinely affect the people that these organizations aim to help.
Meetings will be held in the ACE room. If it has been reserved by someone higher up meetings will be held in D6 in the D-wing hallway.
