Priscilla Movie Review

The Presley fans are going wild about this new movie!
Priscilla+Movie+Review

After the hit ‘Elvis’ movie was a hit, fans were ecstatic and very intrigued to see that ‘Priscilla’ would be coming out. There has been a lot of speculation about her life and relationship with Elvis, so the audience was eager to see her point of view.

Priscilla is played by  Cailee Spaeny. The beginning of the movie starts with a close up of Priscilla walking.  We watch her put on her eyeliner, hairspray, and lashes as soft music plays in the background. After the opening scene, the movie turns to show some good and bad times in Priscilla’s life. It started with her in junior high school, in 1959. She lived in Wiesbaden, Germany with her parents on a U.S Air Force base. Priscilla had got into a lucky encounter, and was invited to a party at “Elvis’” (played by Jacob Elordi) house. He’d been in military service, living in Bad Nauheim.

Some well known events happened that were named in the famous “Elvis and Me” book, and Priscilla assumed that would be her last time with Elvis. Little did she know, he’d end up inviting her to Memphis with him. He wanted them to live together, despite their 10 year age difference. Even though her parents put up a fight at first, they eventually approved. When she moved in with him, she ended up finishing school at a local Catholic high school. While she did that, Elvis waited for her back at the mansion. This is obviously very odd, but it was something Elvis was used to in his family, and they were able to convince Priscilla to think it was normal as well.

Throughout the rest of the movie, we see the rise and the falls of their relationship through Priscilla’s point of view. We watch as Elvis goes from this charming sweet man that Priscilla was amazed by, to someone that was very aggressive. He was not only emotionally but physically abusive towards Priscilla. She knew that this wasn’t a good life for her, but she couldn’t bring herself to leave him. They even ended up getting married. Not only was he abusing her, he was putting her in very dangerous circumstances including drugs. In the movie we also see Elvis giving Priscilla amphetamines and sleeping pills in order to have control and do what he wanted with her.

After years of putting up with this “Priscilla” finally felt strong enough and like she was able to get away. She got into an affair with an instructor she had named Mike and brought her feelings to Elvis. She expressed to him that they could no longer be in a relationship and should go their separate ways.

It’s always been hard for fans to hear Priscilla’s side of the story, but I think this movie opened many people’s eyes. Did “Priscilla” give you a different perspective from when “Elvis” had come out?
