After three years of Varsity Wrestling, senior Bryan McLaughlin has experienced enough to make him better on and off the mat. In his high school career so far, he has 92 wins and 48 pins. Wrestling has helped open many doors for McLaughlin, who recently signed to wrestle for Drexel University.
Barron Perspective: When did you start wrestling?
Bryan McLaughlin: When I was about four or five. As early as I could start.
BP: What inspired you to join wrestling?
BM: Wrestling with my dad in the living room when I was very young.
BP: Who’s the most influential person in your life?
BM: My father. I know he truly believes in me and wants the best for me.
BP: What do you hope to accomplish this season?
BM: To be Woodbridge’s first-ever state champion.
BP: What have you accomplished since freshman year?
BM: I hold the most pins in a single season record, most wins in a season record, fourth in the state, third in the nation, a two time county champion, two times district region champion.
BP: How did it feel to earn a full scholarship to Drexel University?
BM: It wasn’t a full 100% scholarship but most of it is covered. It felt great.
BP: Considering it is your last season, how did you improve over the years?
BM: I’ve matured a lot as an athlete and learned a lot about myself and what I can do.
BP: Our school saying is “Be Great Everyday.” What is your motivational quote?
BM: “Good enough is the death of greatness.”
BP: What is your favorite part about wrestling?
BM: You get what you put into it. You have to work hard to be great.
BP: What is your favorite memory as a Barron Wrestler?
BM: Winning a district title last season.
