The Barron Perspective recently caught up with senior captain Jesse Martinez to talk about the season he’s having with the boys’ cross country team.
Barron Perspective: Which position do you hold with the team?
Jesse Martinez: I’m currently the captain of the cross country team.
BP: When did you join cross country?
JM: I joined cross country in my sophomore year.
BP: Why did you join cross country?
JM: I joined cross country because both my brother and sister did it and I did well during the track season.
BP: What are you hoping to get out of cross country?
JM: I hope to get a scholarship and improve my 5k times.
BP: Do you have any personal goals this season?
JM: I’m looking to improve my 5k time to under 17 minutes […].
BP: Are you and your team looking to improve anything this season?
JM: We are looking to improve our record to 8-0, undefeated. We are currently 4-0.

BP: Where do you see the cross country team at the end of the season?
JM: At the end of the season, I see my team winning the White Division championship.
BP: What is your favorite part about cross country?
JM: My favorite part about cross country is winning 1st place and getting an adrenaline rush in the beginning of my race.
