Woodbridge High School Administration introduces Barron of the Week to celebrate good acts from students in the school. Justin Heller is among students chosen as “Barron of the Week.”

Barron Perspective: What is your name?

Justin Heller: Justin Heller.

BP: What grade are you in?

JH: Grade 12.

BP: Were you randomly chosen or was there a process to being selected?

JH: The way you get chosen to be a Barron of the week is by doing a random act of kindness.

BP: How did you feel when you got chosen?

JH: They don’t tell you why you get called down to the office, they just call you down. So I felt very nervous for various reasons.

BP: Do you believe that the selection process was completely fair? Why or why not?

JH: The selection process is fair to a point. There has to be a Barron of the week every week, and the probability of random people needing random help every week is slim. So then it turns into any act of kindness instead of random. The fact that teachers are the ones nominating students, there can be favoritism and biasedness. But for the most part it is decently fair.

BP: What is your opinion on Barron of the Week? Do you think that there should be more incentive for Barron of the Week?

JH: My opinion on Barron of the week is that it exists. It has its upsides, and its downsides. The reward being just a plain Barrons t-shirt is, in my opinion, a little anticlimactic seeing as you can easily buy said shirt. But it’s a nice thing for doing something nice, plus they post it on Twitter as well. I don’t believe it is an incentive seeing as good-natured individuals will help people out, even without needing a reward.

BP: Do you think it inspires people to be a better person?

JH: The truth is that being nice is not for everyone. There are students that will help out, but those students are helping out because they want to. I feel as if most people even forgot the Barron of the Week existed.

BP: Is there anything else you would like to add?

JH: There is nothing I would like to add. Actually, I would like to add that I was nominated the first time for paying for someone at the school store. And the second time was for giving up my lunch period to help a teacher take down items from a bulletin board.

Woodbridge High School Administration introduced Barron of the Week to celebrate exemplary behavior. The school’s staff encourages students to do good deeds, and for their kindness, students receive a Woodbridge Barrons t-shirt.

Justin reveals that rather than helping out for the sake of being Barron of the Week, he believes that good-natured people will be helpful because that’s what they do.

Barron of the Week is posted to Dr. Lottmann’s Twitter page and the school’s Instagram, as well.
