Samatha Vieira
Sam, captain of the soccer team, has been playing soccer since she was 3 years old. Number 19 plays Midfield and forward. She felt her personal best game was senior night when she scored three goals in the game. She currently leads the team in goals with 16 and has racked up 41 points in 18 games.
Sam advises underclassmen “ to not slack off in freshman year because it truly counts”
Yarely Flores
Yarley, fellow captain to Sam, wears number ten. Yarley plays Center defense. She was five years old when she started playing soccer. Her personal best game was this season’s game against Elizabeth. She looked up to her brother a lot growing up because he played soccer as well. She has three goals and a total of 12 points.
Her advice to underclassmen is “ Always try your best and have fun”
Angelina Smolder
Angie, also one of the team captains, wears number eight . She plays center back. Angie has been playing soccer for ten years. Angie’s best game she has ever played was last year when they held Sayreville to a 0-0 tie. She looks up to Alex Morgan in her sport as she has made a permanent impact on girls soccer as a whole. Angie scored her first goal of the season against South Plainfield.
She wants to remind underclassmen “That teamwork is everything and make sure the team is connected”
Kayla Morales
Kayla wears number 21 and plays right back. This is only her second year of playing high school soccer. Her personal best game was against Highland park for their senior night where the team allowed 0 goals. She looks up to her older brother not only for soccer but in life too. She scored her first goal of the season against South Plainfield.
Orhely France
Orhely wears number nine and plays both forward and defense. She has been playing soccer since her sophomore year. Orhely looks up to her brother and has been inspired by him in many ways. She has scored in both the game against South Plainfield and Highland Park.
Her advice to underclassmen is “ Become a student before you become an athlete”
Renee Wu
Renee plays right wing while wearing number 16. She has been playing soccer since sixth grade, which is seven years. She scored a hat trick in sophomore year which is what she considers her best game of her career. Renee, like many others, looks up to Lionel Messi. She scored her first goal of the season against South Plainfield.
She wants to say to the underclass “Always remember to work hard and have fun”
Angelise Benimadho
Angelise plays as a midfielder that wears number 29. This is her third year of high school soccer after her club years of soccer in Perth Amboy. She is always encouraged by all her teammates to do her best and they always push her and the whole team forward which makes it easy for her to look up to them.
She advises underclassmen to “ not be afraid to ask questions and to always stay positive.”
