Our Planet
“Our Power, Our Planet” has many meanings far past just building towards renewable energy and cleaner electricity. This phrase carries the overall theme to emphasize the importance of keeping our planet healthy and secure. Not just for our own lives in today´s world, but for the lives that will continue to carry on in future generations. Each year on Earth Day, we take this day to educate, advocate and actionalize towards the importance of keeping a safe environment.
With the 55th anniversary of the beloved Earth Day passing by, we humans continue to strive towards a safer planet. This year, the Earth Day Organization has prioritized having society unite towards renewing energy to have cleaner electricity by approximately the year 2030. This means that with cleaner resources like these, there is a clear pathway to providing low cost energy to people all around the world. Not only does renewable energy provide more economic stability, it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions. This way, a healthier planet would look after all living things alike.
Taking Action
With wonderful organizations like the Earth Day Organization looking out for your safety and the planet you live on, you might ask yourself, “What can I do today to help?” The answer is simpler than you might think.
Educate yourself and those around you. Learn and spread the message of what a healthier planet would look like for the current generation and for the future ones to come. Follow the three R’s, Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Cut down on what you throw away, as well as making sure you’re throwing things away in their proper places. Limit energy use, turn off lights when they’re not needed. The sunlight outside makes an amazing and healthier replacement for light in your home. Cut up plastic use. Humans are constantly using unnecessary plastics, yet according to Katie Lambert and Sarah Gleim in their “10 Things You Can Do To Help Save Earth” article, only 9% of plastics actually get recycled. Overall, the smallest thing you could do to help keep the Earth safer could make a huge difference in the long run.
A Better World
So be as it may, Earth Day´s significance makes it one of the most important days of the year. The work towards a safer and healthier planet would provide joy and excitement for the future generations to come
