After the retirement of Coach Jago, the beloved physical education teacher and softball coach, Woodbridge High School has welcomed his son, Mr. Jago to the English Department. The Barron Perspective recently caught up with Mr. Jago to ask him a few questions about his first year at WHS.
Barron Perspective: What college did you attend? Is teaching what you originally went to college for?
Mr. Jago: I graduated from Kean University with a degree in Journalism. I wanted to be a sports writer.
BP: Is this your first year teaching? If not, where did you teach previously?
MJ: It is my first year. I was a substitute teacher at Woodbridge High School for the past two years.
BP: What made you want to become a teacher? When did you decide to become a teacher?
MJ: My family is a long line of teachers, and being here the past two years made me realize how much I really enjoyed it!
BP: What are you most looking forward to about your first year at WHS?
MJ: Growing with my students. It’s a definite learning curve, so I’m excited to learn with them.
BP: What classes do you teach at WHS?
MJ: I teach English 4R during first block and English 4S during third block.
BP: Are you coaching any sports or advising any clubs?
MJ: Yes! I coach the freshmen boys’ soccer team and [I am] an assistant to the boys’ varsity
soccer team.
BP: What was your favorite class in high school?
MJ: I had a journalism class that was really great. It’s what sparked my interest in journalism
before college.
BP: Do you have any hobbies?
MJ: I love soccer, and I play it as much as my old body will let me. I’m a big video game guy, as well.
BP: Do you have any pet peeves?
MJ: Texting in my class!
BP: Where would you most like to travel to in the world?
MJ: Barcelona, Spain so I can watch my favorite soccer team play in their home stadium.
BP: What is your favorite movie?
MJ: The entire Batman Begins trilogy. I’ve seen them so many times.
BP: What has been your favorite part of WHS thus far?
MJ: The staff. Everyone is so welcoming and so helpful, it’s tough to have a bad day.
BP: Is there anything else you would like to add?
MJ: Go Barrons!
