ereThe 67th Annual Grammy Awards nominees were announced to the public on Nov. 8, featuring artists who released some of this year’s biggest hits. Members of the Recording Academy submitted their nominations, and the final nominees have been released to the public.
The Requirements for a Grammy
Certain requirements must be met for a nomination to be considered for a Grammy. First, for a nomination to even qualify, the release must be distributed between Sep. 16, 2023, and Aug. 30, 2024. Once they qualify, the nominations are voted on by well-standing voting committee members. Finally, there is a final vote by the members of the Academy for the winner of these categories. Whoever has the most votes receives the win.
The Nominations
The nominees for Album of the Year include some familiar names, such as Taylor Swift with, “The Tortured Poets Department,” Beyoncé with her country album, “Cowboy Carter,” then Billie Eilish with ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’. Some newer artists also appeared in the nominations, such as Chappell Roan’s album ‘The Rise and Fall of A Midwest Princess’ which took off early this year.
For Song of the Year, we have tracks from the previous artist’s albums, as well as some other well-known releases from this past year. First, we have a newer artist, Shaboozy, with ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ which is currently dominating the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 this year with 19 weeks in the position. Next, Kendrick Lamar’s hit single, “Not Like Us,” takes its place too after being one of the songs of the summer this year. Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga’s collaboration, “Die With a Smile,” and Sabrina Carpenter’s, “Please Please Please,” are also nominees.
Plenty of new artists from different genres are under the spotlight this year, and the nominations for Best New Artist show it. New artists like Shaboozy, Chappell Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter are also nominees for some of the aforementioned categories, which are certainly the biggest of the night. Other nominees like hip-hop artist Doechii and pop-rock artist Benson Boone show how the artists don’t focus on one genre.
