At Woodbridge High School, a growing group of student – athletes is proving that a tough season or a serious injury doesn’t have to determine the rest of their future. Instead, a lot of athletes make insane comebacks this season. These athletes show resilience, discipline and their passion for the sport.
After difficult losses and time away because of injuries, theses athletes are coming back stronger than before, physically and mentally. “There were moments I thought about quitting,” softball player Melanie Alejandro said. She’s had multiple surgeries on her arm in the past that held her back from playing at her full potential. Due to the love she had for softball, she knew she couldn’t quit now.
This comeback trend is happening during the current sports season at WHS, where athletes across a lot of teams are just getting back on the field, court, track, and ice. The only thing keeping these kids locked in is the motivation they have for the sport.
Recovery isn’t easy what so ever. A bunch of athletes went through rehab and training to rebuild their confidence. Support from teammates and coaches has been a big factor. “Coach T came to see me in the hospital after my shoulder surgery,” Dean stated. “ Having the support from coaches and teammates only wanted me to come back even more.” Dean suffered two shoulder injuries that forced him to sit out his sophomore and junior season.
Now, as the season continues, these athletes aren’t only back in action, they’re huge factors on their teams. Their performances and stats show the hard work that was put in to come back. The athletes of Woodbridge High School that came back from injuries also have a story to tell to the people going through the same thing.
