No One Mourns The Wicked
The very popular musical Wicked has been adapted into a movie! The film stars the very talented pop singer Ariana Grande and very hardworking Cynthia Erivo. It has had many people around the world talking about it and still talking about how amazing it was. Even students at Woodbridge High School.
The first Wicked was a musical starring Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel. They both are very big stars in the musical theatre world and made a name for themselves after the musical, which made the musical become very iconic. Since then it’s been running in theaters and has a very popular aura attached to it.
When director Jon M. Chu decided to pick up the music and adapt it and people started talking. Then casting happened.
The Barron Perspective went around asking some students about Wicked and if they have seen the movie or plan to.
“I want to see the movie!” Kennedy Barley states. “I love Ariana Grande and musicals so I’d love to see what type of impact this movie leaves on me.”
I’ve noticed a lot more younger people want to see this movie because Ariana Grande is in it. It’s amazing that someone younger was casted to be one of the main leads because it draws a lot more attention from younger audiences.
Another student states, “I’m not really into musicals but I’ve seen so many tik toks about this movie, I just might go and see it.”
Wicked has also gotten a lot of attention on social media, which makes people more intrigued to go see the movie, which is great marketing.
The Verdict
Overall, students rated the movie a 7.5 out of 10. Ariana Grande was incredible as Glinda, and the story is very well done. The movie is nice to look at visually, and anyone who enjoys the Broadway musical or the original Wizard of Oz story will love how well the musical adapts to the big screen!
