Stranger Things Review
December 7, 2017
With fall being in full swing and people trading in their swimsuits for pumpkin spice lattes, Ugg boots, and anything “spooky”, horror movies and t.v shows have been in demand. The science-fiction horror Netflix show, Stranger Things, has been growing in popularity after the first season aired last year and the second season had its debut in October 2017. The show, created by the Duffer Brothers, mixes drama with horror in its tale of a small town being shaken up by supernatural elements.
The nostalgic show is based in the 1980’s, making it a fun watch for both older and younger viewers. It starts off with the disappearance of Will Byers, who was abducted by a strange creature from the Upside Down. Family and friends frantically look for Will, while discovering dark secrets about the town, including top-secret government experiments involving a little girl, named Eleven, who has special powers and forces. The supernatural aspect of the show is demonstrated through telekinetic powers and the Upside Down, a dark, hellish world that Byers soon finds himself in.
The cast combines older stars, such as Winona Ryder and David Harbour, with younger new actors like Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard. The series will leave viewers clicking “Play Next Episode” every time, as each episode ends on a cliffhanger. In addition to the suspense, each episode is only about 45 minutes long, a perfect amount of time to fully absorb the show’s material. Stranger Things is creepy, yet not too scary as it combines mystery with the supernatural. Not only this, but the show also explores teenage friendship and young love within many of the main characters.
This show will leave you on the edge of your seat wanting more as it takes you through the lives of teenagers trying to save their friend. The combination of nostalgia, suspense, mystery, and love makes the show one of a kind and a must-watch. Amazing acting and a brilliant storyline also led to multiple award nominations and wins for the show and cast, another reason to watch the show. And once you binge-watch all of season one, season two has just been released on Netflix recently to watch as well.
