Michael Thomas, Editor

On this day, January the 13th, in the year of 1999, Michael Jordan, who some consider the best basketball player of all of time, retired from professional basketball for the second time in his career.

Jordan first retired in 1993 due to the passing of his father and wanting to pursue careers in baseball and golf, but eventually decided to return to basketball in 1995.

In his return, Jordan won three more NBA Championships and Three Finals MVP awards with the Chicago Bulls, aping his first run in the National Basketball Association.

According to Jordan, his second retirement was due to a want to spend more time with family and losing the drive to compete at such high levels.

Jordan came out of retirement once more in 2001 for the team he part owned and was the President of, the Washington Wizards, for a less successful, final stint playing in the NBA (Bleacher Report) (History) (The Undefeated).
