(Snow in Miami) On This Day – January 19th

Michael Thomas, Editor

On this day, January the 19th, in the year of 1977, snow in Miami, a Köppen classified Tropical Monsoon Climate, lowly elevated city in the United States, occurred.

Snow in Miami was a culmination of a multitude of rare weather events in Southern Florida occurring at the same time, with blasts of cold air pushing south, mixing with bands of participation, causing snow to fall.

The occurrence was met with thrill and excitement by local residents, as the last time snow was close to Miami was in 1899 (WPLG Local 10) (NWS/NOAA).
