Gran Turismo, a movie that came out on August 25th, 2023 is based on the fascinating true story of a 19-year-old boy from Wales named Jann Mardenborough, who got the opportunity of a lifetime to compete against the best sim racing drivers in the world for the chance to compete in professional racing. As he goes through the trials and tribulations of having to adjust to racing real cars, the pressure from his friends and family to do well after his father who doubts his dreams of racing, and the life and death risk that comes with racing, viewers watch the journey of Jann as he works towards his goals and becomes a professional racing driver.

As a fan of motorsports, I certainly enjoyed this movie a lot. The audio of the engines was well done, and the visuals of iconic tracks like the Dubai Autodrome, and the historic Circuit De La Sarthe in Le Mans, France, (also known as just Le Mans,) were well done with great camera work and awesome camera angles. Fans of racing and Gran Turismo will enjoy this movie a lot. Even though the main story follows that usual underdog story seen in many different films, I think it was executed very well with its cast with names like David Harbour, which people might recognize as he played Jim Hopper in Stranger Things, and Djimon Hounsou, who plays Steve Mardenborough.

For people who are not too into motorsports or have played any sim-racing games, this movie might be less entertaining if you don’t understand much about cars, but Gran Turismo is still a great movie to check out! For people who have to wait throughout the winter as motorsports take their winter breaks, Gran Turismo helps fill that emptiness and provides an entertaining story of a young man’s rise to glory.
