The annual Ball Drop in Times Square, NYC, is an event that millions come in to watch, celebrating and welcoming the new year. This year millions greeted the year 2024 with smiles, love, and laughter. Fireworks, interviews, confetti, and most importantly music are shown at this event. This event gives way to music and singers. From top-selling artists to upcoming unknown singers, this event calls forth millions of views from loving fans.

At this year’s Ball Drop, the main performances were from top-selling artists this year, Megan Thee Stallion, Sabrina Carpenter, and Tyla. Each gathered many fans and love from the audience. Other upcoming artists were given shorter performances that many came to love on the West Coast. For example, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Green Day, and Paul Russell. Some performances were even done overseas. NewJeans, the global sensation, is a 5 member K-pop girl group, that gave a stage performance in South Korea. Each stage was full of dancers, different props, and colorful outfits. Every artist had their unique stage personalized to their music and style.

This year’s Ball Drop was hosted by Ryan Seacrest again, as it is the 19th year. British singer Rita Ora also joined him this year and helped co-host. After watching this year’s Ball Drop We can personally say this year has some of the best performances. From each artist’s live vocals and choreography to the hosts’ dialogue, the whole event was amazing.

After careful consideration, we have decided on who gave the best performance at the 2024 Ball Drop. We both believe NewJeans surpassed our expectations and lived up to their name. From the energetic and playful chores to the stable vocals, NewJeans showed us a new side to what an artist group can do. Each member had an eye-catching outfit that fit their concept perfectly. They sang some of their best-selling songs and gathered fans from all over the globe. Their performance created excitement and happiness in all those who viewed. NewJeans stage presence was on another level and we hope to see them again.

Not only did we enjoy the performance from NewJeans, but those who we interviewed agreed as well. One student stated “NewJeans is a group that creates music that all can truly enjoy. I think they gave one of the best performances at the Ball Drop ever.” Even if the group was in a different country, their effect was immeasurable. As a result, for the next year’s ball drop we hope to see more singers and groups from overseas. NewJeans showcased a perfect blend of comfort and style, leaving the crowd and us eagerly anticipating their future activities.
