A new Michael Jackson biopic is set to debut in theaters on April 24. The film intends to bring the global pop superstar back to life. Titled Michael, it is produced by Lionsgate in a collaboration with the Jackson estate.
Michael will be portrayed by his nephew, Jafaar Jackson. The film will trace Jackson’s upbringing in Gary, Indiana, his success with the Jackson Five, and his transformation into one of the greatest influential artists in music history. The film will focus on highlights of his adult career, major key tours, industry and culture-shaping albums, and iconic performances.
Academy Award nominee Coleman Domingo will be portraying Joe Jackson, Michael’s late father. On an Entertainment Tonight exclusive, he stated, “Watching Jaafar play his Uncle Michael has been an honor of a lifetime … everything is about really honoring Michael’s legacy and also dealing with some of the complicated nature of his life.” Coleman expresses his experience during the film.
Personally, I am ecstatic for this film. It is the perfect mix of all my interests: journalism, film, pop culture, and music. I am also a fan of Michael Jackson. Ultimately, I hope to learn something new about the “King of Pop”. I feel new information is something that will make this biopic exciting and different from the other numerous films on Michael Jackson.
