After a hard 6-19 season last year, Woodbridge High School boys volleyball team is going into a new year with something to prove. While last year’s record may not reflect the teams full potential. Players and coaches are confident that a lot of practice and experience will lead to a better season.
Last season tested the program. Going up against top competition like Elizabeth, St. Josephs, and Westfield. On top of this difficult schedule, the team dealt with inconsistency and couldn’t close out games. However, the losses were taken as lessons and players will carry those lessons into next season.
Junior Johnny Murillo is already a few steps ahead. “Last year go how we wanted, nut now we are aware of what we need to fix,” Johnny said. “We’ve been working harder in practice, and I think people are going to see a different team this season.”
One of the biggest focuses has been getting better with communication and teamwork on the court. Players are spending more time building chemistry, which could be a key factor in turning really close losses to wins.
Danny, another returning player, emphasized the teams shift in mindset. “We’re not stuck on last years record,” Danny stated. “ We’re focused on getting better everyday and playing as a team. If we do that the wins will come easy.”
