The Woodbridge Barrons Football team is off to a hot 5-2 start and have already been named the Big Central Liberty Gold Division regular season champions.

Woodbridge is 4-0 in conference play with huge wins over cross town rival Colonia 42-7 and JFK 56-0. They have outscored opponents 244-113 on the year.

Assistant coach Jack Golden says “The win over Colonia was the high point of the season. There’s nothing like beating the team on the other side of town.” He also added that he “expects us to compete in every game for the rest of the year. I want to make a deep run in the playoffs and compete for a state championship.”

Quarterback Derek Anderson has been off to an impressive start throwing for over 1200 yards to go with 15 passing and 6 rushing touchdowns. A.J. Bosch, Bryan Anderson, and Jordan Byron have led receivers with a combined 62 receptions, over 1000 yards, and 15 receiving touchdowns.

On the other side of the ball, Byran leads the team in tackles with 45. To go along with that he has two interceptions including returning one for a touchdown. Jordan leads the team in interceptions with three. Defensive tackle Jose Tejierio leads with 4.5 sacks.

Senior captian and linebacker Dean Fiore says “his favorite part of playing is looking up on a Friday night and seeing the crowd when your in a big game.” Fiore has big goals for the rest of the season and “wants to win out the rest of the regular season and win a state championship.”

The Barrons’s next game is tonight as they take on North Hunterdon for senior night inside Nicholas A. Priscoe Stadium at 7 pm.
