Attention to all Woodbridge High School students! The second semester of the 2025-2026 school year is about to begin. That being said, scheduling is coming up and students should be thinking ahead regarding which electives they are planning on taking next school year.
Different students are interested in different hobbies, careers, and passions. This is especially true during adolescence. Having a guide and thorough information on many electives can aid students in finding the perfect elective that suits them. Woodbridge High School has a wide variety of elective options which is beneficial in satisfying all students’ needs and interests.
Important Information:
As soon as the portal opens up on Genesis, students are advised to sit with parents or guardians in order to choose next year’s classes. The Barron Perspective spoke with WHS guidance counselor, Mrs. Moyer, who advised that students should make selections and as soon as possible, seeing as the portal is only open for a few weeks. However, once the end of May rolls around, counselors cannot change any made selections.
New/Interesting Electives
As the years go by, new electives come out into the light at WHS, and students are often not aware. Because of this, The Barron Perspective asked Mrs. Moyer for some information regarding interesting and new electives.
“The business department is rolling out exciting incentives for Career and Technical Courses (CTE), where students have the opportunity to earn 12 college credits and a NOCTI credential recognized by businesses across the country,” Mrs. Moyer shared.
“Starting in freshman year, students can take Principles of Business and then build to Business Management, Business Law and Business Organizations and Management,” Mrs. Moyer stated. “After taking the four courses, the student is eligible to take the NOCTI exam and earn their certification.”
Popular Electives/Advice
The Barron Perspective also asked Mrs. Moyer about some commonly chosen, popular electives. Here is what she had to say.
“Many students enjoy visual and performing arts, foods and computer electives, such as Graphic Animation and Video Game Design,” Mrs. Moyer stated. “Those are some of our most popular electives available for next year. We have something for everyone, including electives in social studies, science and math for those students who enjoy more academic electives.”
Choosing an elective however, can be difficult if you are an indecisive person. Mrs. Moyer shared her advice on how to go about choosing an elective.
In regards to upperclassmen: “Upperclassmen should always try to think of what they would like to study/major in in college. Electives should try to coincide with their choice of major in college,” Mrs. Moyer stated. “If a student is thinking about college, most students will need to take the SAT/ACT.”
In regards to underclassmen: “Students should also choose electives that they are going to enjoy. If you are choosing an elective that you don’t really want to take, remember, you are stuck in that elective for approximately four months,” Mrs. Moyer stated.
No matter if you like the arts, food, design, history, or science, there is an elective for everyone. So no matter how you go about choosing your upcoming electives, make sure the electives will be enjoyable and beneficial for YOU. Students should try and take Mrs. Moyer’s advice into consideration, but always remember the guidance counselors are available to help you make the best out of your high school experience! Electives can make or break your year, so choose wisely, and happy scheduling!
