The New Barron

The New Barron

This year at Woodbridge High School senior Kevin Modeszto was chosen to represent our school as the Barron by the mascot advisor and Drama Club teacher at WHS Mr. Terrell. This 2023-2024 school year is Mr. Terrell’s 17th year picking the Barron. Although Kevin wasn’t initially meant to be the Barron, circumstances changed and he stepped up for the role and has been the Barron ever since.

Kevin participates in many different extracurriculars at our school like Drama Club, National Honor Society, and Academic Competition Club. His favorite thing about Woodbridge High School is our community.

Kevin was a perfect fit for the Barron job being that he loves Woodbridge and has an outgoing, friendly personality that is able to reach all audiences.

“interacting with people, seeing a little kid light up when I come around.” said Kevin

A lot of credit is due to Mr. Terrell for our mascot since when he started at WHS, the yearly choice of the student to be the Barron had just died out. He saw this as something special which is why he brought it back, and we’ve had a Barron each year ever since. He enjoys being the mascot advisor because it is a way to be involved with sports in a different aspect and he can find the unique qualities each Barron has to showcase.

The Barron makes an appearance at every football game, and most of the senior nights for each sport. When choosing the Barron, Mr. Terrell looks for a person with a gregarious, pleasant personality who is also flexible with their time.

Our mascot is something truly unique about our school. It is something that brings all of the different aspects of our school together and shines the spotlight on some of the amazing people in our school community.

Mr. Terrell put it perfectly when he said, “I am happy to be the mascot advisor and it’s a legacy that I think we should leave going forward for WHS.”
