The Drama Club will be holding its annual Broadway Night in Woodbridge High School cafeteria 129 on Tuesday, October 17. The show begins at 6:30 p.m. and the doors will open at 6 p.m. This event is meant to celebrate alumni and current theatre students as well as support the WHS Spring Musical.

The show will have an admission fee of $10. All proceeds will go towards the funding of the WHS 2024 Spring Musical, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Mr. Terrell and Mr. Lynch, the advisors of the Drama Club, are in charge of the show. Parents of drama students will provide refreshments.

Mr. Lynch spoke about why the fundraiser was created, “I thought ‘We got all these talented kids who can perform and they know interesting songs from shows and movies…instead of just doing ShopRite bagging or restaurant nights, why don’t we have our kids entertain?’”

The Show Itself

The title of the event is Broadway Night because the songs performers sing must be from musicals.

Each Broadway Night is designed to look like a jazz cafe. There will be white tablecloths covering the cafeteria tables, with candle centerpieces. The room will be decorated with string lights, and smooth jazz music will be playing before the show begins.

Mr. Lynch, a director of Broadway Night said, “We try to make it a little bit like a cabaret or a nightclub.”

Any Woodbridge High School alumni who participated in the theatre program are welcome to sing at the school. Although, current WHS drama and musical students can perform as well.

When asked what his favorite aspect of the show is, senior and Broadway night performer Jeffrey De Leon Vaca, said, “The alumni, it’s just really nice to see everybody coming back, show what they have learned, and see what they can bring to the table…and it’s also performing in front of the alumni because we perform at Broadway Night to show the alumni what we can do.”

The Drama Club encourages students, parents, and any Broadway fanatics to attend the performance and support WHS theatre.
